Kroke ( Yiddish for Krakow ) is a Polish world music band.
history
The three long-time friends and graduates of the Cracow Music Academy Tomasz Lato, Tomasz Kukurba and Jerzy Bawoł founded the group in Cracow in 1992. The group performs internationally, mostly within Europe, and works on album productions and concerts with various guest musicians.
The first album Trio - Klezmer Acoustic Music from 1996 still showed the original intention to be recognized as a contemporary Klezmer band . Over the years, collaborations and other album releases, the fundamental openness of the band towards European jazz ( Seventh Trip 2007), classical music ( Feelharmony , 2012) and Balkan folk rhythms in addition to the klezmer roots came to fruition. Although a pure instrumental band without vocalists, singers were brought in from time to time, like Edyta Geppert for the production Śpiewam życie - I Sing Life from 2007. For the tenth album called Ten from 2014, the band won the Polish music award Fryderyk Nominated in 2015.
occupation
- Tomasz Kukurba - violin , viola , vocals , percussion and much more
- Tomasz Lato - double bass
- Jerzy Bawoł - accordion
On the album The Sounds Of The Vanishing World , Kroke worked with Dariusz Grela in 1999 (vocals, drum programming, sampling), who in turn was involved in the production of the album Ten (2014) with his Kraków recording studio as a producer. With Tomasz Grochot (drums, percussion) there has been a collaboration on three albums since 2004. On the album East meets east and at concerts (also in 2009) Nigel Kennedy played on violin and electric violin with Kroke. A cooperation took place in 2007 with the singer Edyta Geppert and the jazz pianist Krzysztof Herdzin . Since the album Out of Sight , Kroke has concentrated more on the original trio line-up, where Grochot was no longer part of the line-up for the first time.
