Kromberg & Schubert (short: Kroschu) is a Wuppertal manufacturer of wiring systems for the automotive industry, special cables for other branches of industry and plastic parts. The company has 48 locations in 21 countries. Kromberg & Schubert is a Tier 1 supplier to many large automobile manufacturers and manufactures cable harnesses for these that are used for the electrical supply and communication within the entire vehicle. In addition to cable systems for cars, products for installation in commercial vehicles and motorcycles are also offered.

The company was founded in Barmen in 1902 by Paul Kromberg and Ernst Schubert and, as a cable manufacturer, was assigned the color purple to identify its products. This color code is still used today. After Ernst Schubert's death in 1916, Paul Kromberg became the sole owner of the company. Until Kromberg's death in 1937, the company had developed into an important supplier of low-voltage technology and was already supplying automobile manufacturers such as Adlerwerke , Daimler-Benz , DKW , Opel and Stoewer . Paul Kromberg's successor as managing partner was his son Otto, who took over a company with 500 employees. During the Second World War, Kromberg & Schubert focused on the manufacture of field cables and torpedo cable harnesses in the course of war production. After the destruction of around 80% of the company premises, production had to be rebuilt after the World War. In 1952, in the 50th year of its existence, the company again had 380 employees. After Otto Kromberg's death in 1958, his widow Gerda took over management of the company. Under her leadership, the first location outside of Wuppertal was inaugurated in Renningen in 1959 . In the following years, several foreign branches and production facilities were opened in Germany. As early as 1969, Kromberg & Schubert had 1,300 permanent employees. Hans-Otto Kromberg joined the company in 1973. He is still a member of the management today. In 1990 production was relocated from Wuppertal to Rhede in the Münsterland region. Since then, only the administration of Kromberg & Schubert GmbH, which forms the legal core of the Kromberg & Schubert Group, has been located in Wuppertal. With the expansion from the 1990s onwards, in addition to production in Germany, the importance of production locations in other European countries and on other continents also grew.
