Krupa (German: Krupp) is a small village in the Slovenian region of Bela krajina , which belongs to the municipality of Semič . This place has become notorious for the Krupa river of the same name , which rises in the place and has one of the world's highest levels of PCB pollution . The picturesque, turquoise-blue spring lies directly under a limestone cliff. Decades of improper disposal of PCB waste at a nearby capacitor factory, Iskra kondenzatorji, have poisoned the source and the entire area .
The Krupa Castle (German: Krupp Castle), which originally belonged to the Croatian noble Babonić family, had probably stood near the village since the 13th century .
