The crusts saxifrage ( Saxifraga crustata Vest ; Syn .: Saxifraga incrustata (Vest) Vest ) is a species in the genus saxifrage ( Saxifraga ) in the family Saxifragaceae (Saxifragaceae).
features
The crusted saxifrage is a perennial plant that reaches heights of growth of 10 to 30 centimeters. It is similar to the grape saxifrage , but is more delicate. The rosette leaves are 10 to 60 millimeters long, 2 to 3 millimeters wide, long, narrow-linear and narrow towards the base. They are long-haired, gray-green and often covered by a lime crust. At the top they are curved outward. The leaf margin is indistinctly notched and mostly entire and densely covered with lime-secreting pits. The ovary is not on top.
Flowering time is from June to August.
The species has chromosome number 2n = 28.
Occurrence
The crusty saxifrage is endemic to the southeastern Limestone Alps , where it occurs east of the Adige to Slovenia, Bosnia, Herzegovina and western Serbia. It grows in the montane to subalpine level on limestone cliffs and on open limestone-rich soils at altitudes of 300 to 2800 meters.
