Krystian Bala (* 1973 ) is a Polish writer , photographer and convicted murderer .

In 2003 he published his first novel Amok , the protagonist of which Chris is a bored intellectual who disdains and mocks traditional values of Polish society, who after numerous sexual escapades and acts of vandalism committed under the influence of alcohol finally kills his girlfriend for no reason without ever being caught.

In 2005 Bala was arrested in Chojnów on suspicion of having been involved in the 2000 murder of a Polish businessman whose perpetrators could not be identified. Bala had sold a cell phone from the victim's possession through the Internet auction house Allegro , and the investigating officer noticed similarities between the murder described by Bala in his novel and the real crime. In addition, it turned out that Bala's girlfriend at the time knew the murder victim and Bala had expressed feelings of jealousy . After a circumstantial trial, Bala was found guilty of murder in September 2007 and sentenced to 25 years in prison. After an appeal, an appeals court ruled that a new trial was necessary because the evidence was insufficient and Bala remained in custody until then. In December 2008, Bala was retried and found guilty and reinstated his 25-year prison term. The criminal case was picked up in the television series Mythos serial killer ( Killers: Behind The Myth ) in the episode Bala: Der Murderende Writer ( The Novel Killer ).
