Kryuchok Island ( English ; Russian Остров Крючок Ostrow Krjutschok , German 'Haken Island' ) is an island off the Ingrid Christensen coast of the East Antarctic Princess Elisabeth Land . In the group of the Rauer Islands , it is 1.5 km from the northwestern extension of Filla Island .
Norwegian cartographers mapped them in 1946 based on aerial photographs of the Lars Christensen expedition in 1936/37 . Further aerial photographs were taken during the US operation Highjump (1946-1947), during a Soviet Antarctic expedition in 1956 and during campaigns of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions in 1957 and 1958. The naming made by the Soviet scientists transferred the Antarctic Names Committee of Australia in a transcribed partial translation into English.
