Krzysztof Marek Piesiewicz (born October 25, 1945 in Warsaw ) is a Polish lawyer and screenwriter.

Life

Piesiewicz began studying law in Warsaw in 1970 and has been a lawyer since 1973. He served as an attorney on a number of political court cases in the 1980s. The most famous case with his involvement was the murder case of the priest Jerzy Popiełuszko . From 1991 to 1993 and 1997 to 2011 he was a member of the Polish Senate , the second chamber of the Polish Parliament.

In addition to his legal work, Piesiewicz wrote screenplays together with Krzysztof Kieślowski . A total of 17 films by Kieślowski were made in this way. In 1995, his screenplay Drei Farben: Rot was nominated for an Oscar . In 1996 he was a member of the jury at the Cannes Film Festival .

In 2002 the German director Tom Tykwer realized his screenplay Heaven , written with Kieślowski, with Cate Blanchett in the lead role. Another book from Kieślowski's estate, which he had made with Piesiewicz, was realized in France in 2005 by Danis Tanović with Emmanuelle Béart under the title As in Hell .
