Course of the Ksani in South Ossetia

The Ksani ( Georgian ქსანი ; Ossetian Чысандон / Čysandon) is a river in central Georgia and South Ossetia .

It arises as an outflow from Lake Kelistba on the southern slope of the Greater Caucasus , flows south, passes the city of Akhalgori and flows into the Kura 35 km northwest of Tbilisi .

In addition to the city of Akhalgori, capital of the Rajon of the same name , near the mouth of the river are the remains of the fortress of Ksani. The historical Georgian province, which stretched over the valley of the Ksani and the neighboring valleys, also bore the name of the river.
