Ksar Hellal ( Arabic قصر هلال, DMG Qaṣr Hallāl ) is a city in the Tunisian Sahel region, about 20 kilometers south of Monastir .

The municipality was founded on September 23, 1948 and is administratively part of the Monastir Governorate . In 2014 it had 49,376 inhabitants. It borders the cities of Sayada in the east, Moknine in the south and Touza in the west and Lamta , Bouhjar , Bennane and Bodheur in the north.

Origin of the place name

The foundation of the settlement is said to go back to the Banū Hilāl , according to the archaeologist M'hamed Hassine Fantar, who established the presence of the names Zoghba and Marāa, which are attributed to the tribe of the Hilaliens, on the spot.
