Kuala Kangsar is the old sultan city of Perak with about 39,300 inhabitants in northern Malaysia . It lies between Ipoh and Taiping at the mouth of the river ( Malay : Kuala ) of the Sungai Kangsar in the Sungai Perak .

The then British governor Hugh Low moved his seat to the small town in 1877 and was the first to plant rubber trees in his garden on the Malay Peninsula , which were smuggled in from Brazil and raised in London . A few years later the first plantations arose from his breeding, with the yield of which Malaysia rose to become one of the world's top producers of rubber .
