Attractions

Rameshvara Temple
  • The main attraction of the village is of the Hindu god Shiva consecrated Rameshvara Temple . The floor plan already shows a clover leaf shape as it is characteristic of the later Hoysala temples (e.g. in Somanathapura and Bhadravati ); the Shikhara structures above the two side entrances were probably never planned. The entire temple stands on an almost 1 m high base zone, which, however, does not allow any ritual walk ( pradakshina ) around the building - this could only be done on the ground covered with stone slabs. In contrast to the later Hoysala temples, almost all ornamental and pictorial architectural decorations are missing on the outside; the outer wall of the cella ( garbhagriha ) shows no signs of a ratha structure . Above the small entrance area to the cella there are two Vyala lions trampling on people and elephants , but they are attacked by warriors. The columns turned from soapstone inside, the lying Nandi bull and the entrance portal to the cella also testify to the craftsmanship and artistic skills of the medieval stone sculptors.
  • Two schools of Vedanta philosophy ( matts ) from the late Middle Ages still exist today - one is dedicated to Advaita , the other to Dvaita teaching. Today's buildings are all modern.
