The lake - which is geologically a Toteissee ( Söll ) - is located in a depression in Holstein Switzerland , surrounded by a hilly moraine landscape . It is approx. 12 ha in size, has an irregular, slightly heart-shaped shape with a width and length of approx. 300 m. It is threatened with siltation - e.g. Sometimes overgrown areas have already formed in it. It can drain via the (piped) Kuhlenau into the Schwartau, which flows approx. 400 m away .
