Kuito ( Russian Куйто , Finnish Kuittijärvet ) is a system of lakes in the western to Russia belonging to the Republic of Karelia . It includes three lakes. From west to east these are: Werchneje Kuito ("Upper Kuito"), Sredneje Kuito ("Middle Kuito") and Nischneje Kuito ("Lower Kuito"). These lakes are between 100 and 103 m high and together have a water surface of around 600 km². They form an approximately 140 km long water system. The lakes are connected to each other by natural channels. They are drained in an easterly direction from the Kem to the White Sea .

The discharge from the lowest of the three lakes has been regulated since 1956.

The fish caught in the lakes include: Salmoninae , vendace , coregonus , grayling , smelt , perch , rutilus , aland , pike , burbot . Ruff .
