Henning Kullak-Ublick

Henning Friedrich Kullak-Ublick (born May 28, 1955 in Buenos Aires , Argentina ) is a Waldorf teacher , spokesman for the Association of Independent Waldorf Schools and international coordinator of Waldorf 100.

Life

Henning Kullak-Ublick grew up as the son of the diplomat Horst Kullak-Ublick (1924-2016) in Argentina , Brazil , Iran , Sri Lanka , Germany and Great Britain and attended seven different schools during his childhood and youth. In 1976 he graduated from the University of London . After studying agriculture in Gießen and Kiel , he gained practical experience with the biodynamic economy in Ostholstein . His interest in organic agriculture and direct democracy led him into politics: Henning Kullak-Ublick was a founding member of the Greens party in 1980 and was committed to direct democracy. He initiated the popular initiative School in Freedom .

From 1981 to 1984 Kullak-Ublick studied at the Institute for Waldorf Education in Witten-Annen. In 1984 he became a teacher at the Free Waldorf School in Flensburg, where he worked as a class, English and religion teacher and on the school's governing bodies until he switched to the “Bund der Freie Waldorfschulen”.

In 1994, Kullak-Ublick founded the “Mündige Schule ” initiative, which in 1995, with the Schleswig-Holstein popular initiative “School in Freedom”, campaigned for a reform of the law to ensure equal rights for independent and state-sponsored schools.

Since 2010 he has been head of the press and public relations department of the Bund der Freie Waldorfschulen full-time as part of his board activity. He is a columnist and co-editor of the monthly Erziehungskunst and speaker.

Kullak-Ublick is the international coordinator of Waldorf 100, which brings together the worldwide celebrations for the centenary of Waldorf education.

In 2017 his book Every Child an Expert (2014) was included as a paperback in the anniversary edition of the Freie Geistesleben publishing house .

Kullak-Ublick lives together with his wife Mareike (née Wackerhagen) in Hamburg. You have four children.
