history

In the 1990s, people from the area around the Cevi launched a pilot project for culturally interested, unemployed young people. In the course of rising unemployment in Switzerland, the project was taken over by the Office for Economy and Labor of the Canton of Zurich (AWA) and included in the list of offers for job seekers. The program, formerly known as RATS, has been a national qualification and further training program for the unemployed since 2008 and works on behalf of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO). His specialty is the unique offer in Switzerland for registered unemployed cultural workers. This area is overseen by the actor, director and musician Wolfgang Beuschel .

The culture market is organized as a politically and denominationally independent association. Dieter Sinniger, former director of the Aarau Tuchlaube Theater , has been the managing director since 2014 . In 2016, the Kulturmarkt received the recognition award from the City of Zurich's Theater Commission .

location

The culture market is located in Zurich's district 3 on the corner of Aemtlerstrasse and Kalkbreitstrasse. It is rented in the former living and common rooms of the listed Zwinglihaus .

purpose

The cultural market is also a cultural center, a restaurant and a national qualification program for job seekers. The latter is an order of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs SECO and is unique in Switzerland with its offer for cultural workers registered as unemployed. Job seekers work for a limited time in the cultural market, attend further training courses and can benefit from application coaching. The aim is to reintegrate into the first job market as quickly as possible.

In the culture market, events from various cultural sectors (music, dance, theater) are realized. The content focus is on dealing with socially relevant issues. Rooms can also be rented for public or private events. The culture market also regularly implements its own cultural projects (see in-house productions).

The culture market is run by 15 permanent employees and up to 45 job seekers.
