The Kulturpark Neubrandenburg is a park in Neubrandenburg . The recreation area is located southwest of the city center. The culture park stretches from the north bank of the Tollensesees to the Friedrich-Engels-Ring and lies between the Oberbach and the Gäterbach .

The grounds of the park were originally taken over by the Werderbruch, a swampy, difficult-to-pass area that served the city as natural protection against attackers in the Middle Ages . In the 1830s, the first bathing establishments were set up on the shores of Lake Tollensee, and soon afterwards tourist restaurants. Walking paths have been laid out near the bank. It was not until 1904 that a promenade was drawn from Goethestrasse to the bathhouse. During the First World War , prisoners of war dug drainage ditches.

During the reconstruction of the inner city, which was destroyed in the city fire in 1945, large amounts of rubble were transported into the Werderbruch. In the zoning of 1956, a cultural park was first mentioned, the decision to build was made in 1968 by the city representatives. The basic work was carried out from November 1969 to 1972. Around 165,000 cubic meters of soil were poured in and an area of around ten hectares opened up. The existing trees were used and only cleared to the extent that new plantings were only necessary to a small extent. As part of the national structure , citizens of the city volunteered to create promenades, meadows, shrub and bog gardens and playgrounds. There were also various sculptures and a sundial. Two Neolithic stone boxes , one of them from the Datzeniederung , were moved to the southern edge of the cultural park. In the southern part, the Neubrandenburger Stadthalle was opened in 1969 , a hypar shell construction by the architect Ulrich Müther .

When drinking water production in Stargarder Bruch, south of the park, was stopped after 1990, the groundwater level in the cultural park rose, causing large areas to be flooded. In 1994 a groundwater regulation system was therefore put into operation. Large areas of the cultural park have been renovated and replanted since the 1990s. In the southern area, a modern multi-purpose arena was opened in 1996 with the Jahnsportforum , which offers space for sporting events, concerts and other formats.

The city of Neubrandenburg has the culture park on its list of monuments .
