history

City Hall Neubrandenburg

In the spring of 1968, the district assembly decided to build the Neubrandenburger Stadthalle because there was no hall for larger events. The hypar shell construction was designed by the civil engineer Ulrich Müther and the interior design by the district architect Karl Kraus. The engineers Kurt Ihloff and Brenndörfer supervised various construction processes. Up to the final completion of the town hall, builders from 70 companies were involved in the construction. The building is now operated by the city's own event center Neubrandenburg GmbH .

The town hall is being completely renovated for its 50th anniversary. Construction work is scheduled to begin in February 2020 and continue for two years. Until then, the hall will no longer be available for events. Four million euros are budgeted for the general renovation, 3.1 million euros are borne by the EU and the federal state. A container extension is also to be renovated.

construction

The town hall extends on a square floor plan of 46 × 46 m. The distinctive arched roof consists of four hyperbolic parabolic shells and is self-supporting. The four roof shells are connected to one another by light strips for daylight. Curtains behind the window front on the ground floor regulate the incidence of light. At the four corners of the building there are small extensions that also have slightly sloping roof surfaces. There is space for cloakrooms, toilets, administration rooms, serving kitchens and sales stands.
