Entrance to the Kulturværft (2014)

Kulturværftet ( German  "The Culture Yard" ) in the Danish city of Helsingør is the cultural center of Helsingør Municipality . It is housed in the shipyard buildings of the former Helsingør Skibsværft in the port of Helsingør . Located between Kronborg Castle and Danserindebrønden , the Værftmuseet (shipyard museum) and the central library of Helsingør Municipality are located on an area of 13,000 m² .

Building 10 (Bygning 10) , the former office building of the shipyard, now contains an exhibition room and office space for the library. The shipyard museum at the entrance of the building documents the history of Helsingør Skibværft , which is over a hundred years old and , as the largest employer, has long been the linchpin of the city. Buildings 12 and 13 house the library's reading rooms, which are spread over three floors. There are also meeting rooms, workshops and a café and restaurant. A small hall (Lille Scene) and a large multifunctional hall with a stage and 500 seats and 1000 standing places (Store Scene) are available for concerts, conferences or theater performances, among other things . The buildings are connected to one another by a new glass building (Bygning 11) and arcades.

Appearance by the Danish actors Peter Mygind and Ditte Hansen at the opening of the Kulturværft in October 2010

Kulturværftet opened on October 10, 2010 at 10:10 am after the shipyard was redesigned and expanded from 2008 to 2010 for DKR 286 million according to plans by the architects at AART A / S. The proposal from the Aarhus architects' office won an open architectural competition that was announced by Helsingør Municipality together with Akademisk Arkitekturforening in December 2005. The work took place as part of the Kulturhavn Kronborg project , in which parts of the harbor were converted into a cultural area (Kulturmområde Helsingør) by 2012 . This concept also includes the Maritime Museum , which opened in 2013 and was built underground around the old dry dock .
