The Merlin cultural center is an event center in Stuttgart that hosts over 550 events with around 25,000 visitors every year. The carrier is a socio-cultural association founded in 1983.

The Merlin cultural center offers cultural programs in the fields of music, cabaret, theater, performance, literature, short film and children's theater. It has been cooperating with various cultural institutions and artist initiatives for years. There are regular series on cross-genre cultural projects, on district culture and the regional music scene, as well as blues concerts with international artists.

Various festivals and collaborations represent the main components of the cultural work. These include the Stuttgart cabaret festival, the Klinke summer music festival, the Pop Freaks festival and the Stuttgart Jazz Days.

The Pop Freaks festival tracks down new trends in German pop and invites bands and musicians who have only recently played a prominent role in the German music scene or are about to do so. The Klinke Summer Music Festival has existed since 1990. During the summer holidays, up-and-coming bands and artists of various styles play four days a week throughout August with free admission. Most of the performers are local or regional artists or those who have a connection to Stuttgart. This series of events was nominated for the "best event" in 2015 by the Music Award Region Stuttgart (MARS) of the Stuttgart Region Pop Office.

The Merlin is one of the stages that came together in 2007 to form the “Stuttgart Cabaret Producer Association”. The Stuttgart Cabaret Festival is organized annually by the producer group.

From 2002 to 2014 the Merlin organized the Stuttgart ChanSongFest in cooperation with the Renitenztheater, this cooperation was ended in 2015.

Blues concerts with predominantly American artists take place regularly. The range of styles includes acoustic country blues (e.g. Alvin Youngblood Hart ), traditional Chicago blues (e.g. Duke Robillard , Eddie C. Campbell) and blues-rock (e.g. Omar & The Howlers ).

Socioculture

According to its own self-image as a socio-cultural center, the Merlin "works with initiatives and committed people, provides space, time, know-how and logistics, houses working groups and initiative groups, establishes contacts, supports, advises and mediates between institutions, initiatives and politics , Administration and the independent scene. So socioculture participates in the discussion about the living conditions in the city and is at the same time one of the living conditions of the city dwellers. "

The association Kulturverein Merlin eV with around 50 members is responsible for the Merlin cultural center . Financial support is also provided by sponsors. An advisory board has been available to advise and support the board and the Merlin team since 1998. The two managing directors Kathrin Dick and Annette Loers manage the cultural center with 6 permanent employees and around 40 volunteers. The Merlin Cultural Center is a member of the Association of Socio-Cultural Centers in Baden-Württemberg (LAKS). The state capital Stuttgart and the state of Baden-Württemberg support the Merlin cultural center.
