Kundeyt Şurdum

Kundeyt Şurdum (born February 17, 1937 in Konya / Turkey ; † April 21, 2016 in Feldkirch ) was a German-speaking poet , radio and magazine editor of Turkish origin who lived in Austria .

Life

Şurdum, who had been working as a teacher and translator in Vorarlberg, Austria since 1971 , graduated from an Austrian school in Istanbul and then devoted himself to studying German philology - also in Istanbul . In Austria soon also a radio employee at ORF , from 1988 the emerging poet Şurdum was also at the advice center of the Institute for Social Services as a consultant for Turkish citizens in his Austrian hometown Feldkirchactive. Even before that, he had often given important impulses with regard to the integration of Turkish citizens in Vorarlberg, for example in 1983 when he participated in the founding of the magazine for Turkish citizens in Vorarlberg BİZ, of which he was editor-in-chief.

The writer Şurdum published in literary magazines and until 2003 also on ORF, for which he designed programs for fellow citizens of his state of Turkish origin.

In 1988 Piper Şurdum's first volume of poetry appeared under a borrowed sky . Further book publications followed: a photo volume Landlos (1991) about "Turks in Vorarlberg", compiled together with Vorarlberg photographer Nikolaus Walter , and another volume of poetry, No day goes without a trace (2002).

The poet Şurdum was awarded the Johann-Peter-Hebel-Prize in 1996 by the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts Baden-Württemberg .
