Kuno Hottenrott
Kuno Hottenrott (born January 11, 1959 ) is a German sports scientist and university professor for exercise science . From 1988 to 1993 he was national trainer for the youth and juniors of the German Triathlon Union .
Life
From 1982 to 1987 Hottenrott studied mathematics and sports science for teaching at grammar schools at the University of Kassel. After receiving his doctorate on a training science topic, he was a research assistant and university assistant in the sports medicine department of the Institute for Sports Science and Motology as well as a university lecturer in the field of sports medicine movement science at the Philipps University in Marburg . From 1987 to 1993 he was a junior trainer for the German Triathlon Union.
Since 2003 he has been a university professor at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and heads the work area "Training Science and Sports Medicine" at the Institute for Sports Science. In 2005 he founded the "Institute for Performance Diagnostics and Health Promotion eV" (ILUG). Hottenrott is the director of the ILUG as well as the head of the master's degree in "Sport and Nutrition" (the first degree in Germany that combines sport and nutrition).
From 2009 to 2013 Hottenrott was Vice President and from 2013 to 2017 President of the German Association for Sports Science .
He is an active endurance athlete himself with a marathon best time of 2 hours and 36 minutes. Kuno Hottenrott is the father of Laura Hottenrott , a German long-distance runner, and Fabian Hottenrott.
Research areas
Hottenrott's research has a focus on endurance sports , in which he has published numerous sports books and monographs. In particular, in the field of heart rate variability , he has written fundamental work.
His research areas in detail are:
- Methods and applications of heart rate variability in sports and medicine
- Stress, strain and adaptation in sport and rehabilitation
- Biomechanics, muscle activity and movement structure
- Sensorimotor and sensorimotor training in prevention and rehabilitation
- Performance diagnostics, training and load control
- Junior training and long-term performance development
- Energy metabolism, nutrition and substitution in sport
- Adaptation under normoxia and hypoxia
- Brain activity (EEG) and fatigue in sports
Hottenrott pulse formula
In 2008, Hottenrott developed a formula for calculating the ideal pulse rate for endurance sports based on a study with marathon runners. The Hottenrott pulse formula takes into account the differences in the stress heart rate between women and men.
