from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kunstforum Gummersbach (completely Kunstforum Gummersbach eV, Association of Friends and Supporters of Contemporary Art ) is an art forum for contemporary art in Gummersbach . The chair is Silke Knapp-Trauschein, an art teacher at the Lindengymnasium Gummersbach .

history

The non-profit association was founded in March 1988 by art lovers and artists from the region. It is not an association of visual artists , but the general purpose of initiating cultural events, in particular organizing one's own art exhibitions as well as visits to exhibitions, museums, galleries and studios.

The Kunstforum Gummersbach presented its exhibitions for decades in the gallery of the theater of the city of Gummersbach , where it again showed pictures of 20 artists from the past three decades in a retrospective exhibition on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the association. When it was decided to close the theater on June 11, 2018, Vice Mayor Jürgen Marquardt announced in January 2018 that the city of Gummersbach wanted to provide the art forum in the old bailiwick in the pedestrian zone with permanent exhibition space to replace the theater gallery. In March 2018, however, Mayor Frank Helmenstein announced that no rooms could be made available there for sole use, as this would limit the proposed concept too much. He offered that the art forum could use the town hall foyer as an exhibition space, the layout of which, according to the club's chairman, Silke Knapp's wedding slip, was unsuitable for this purpose.

The Kunstforum Gummersbach is a member of the German Art Association (ADKV).

Annual editions are published once a year (individual items / low editions).
