The Art Casting Museum Lauchhammer is a museum opened in 1993 in the Lauchhammeran district of Lauchhammer-Ost .

history

The initiative to create a museum, which was supposed to show the more than 200 year old history of art casting in Lauchhammer, came from WEQUA GmbH , an economic and qualification company , founded in 1991 . During this time, it was also the agency for job creation measures (ABM).

First of all, the former apprentice and journeyman's home of the Lauchhammerwerk, which was built in 1898 and was under monument protection, was rented at Grünhauser Straße 19 in Lauchhammer-Ost and converted into a museum via ABM. Since no collection on the subject existed up to this point, the commissioners looked for suitable exhibits for the planned exhibition in Lauchhammer and outside. Negotiations with the municipality of Wolkenburg , whose castle was the headquarters of the Counts of Einsiedel , and appeals to the population asking for loans and sales, were hardly successful, so that existing models were restored or cast. After the opening date planned for December 1992 initially passed, the Art Casting Museum Lauchhammer was finally officially opened on February 4, 1993.

Since 2008 the museum with the "Schaudepot Bronzeschule" has been located in the listed building of a vocational school at Freifrau-von-Löwendal-Straße 3.

exhibition

In addition to iron and bronze casts of sculptures , the most important part of the collection is a model fund of around 2,800 pieces from the foundry located here . In addition to the permanent exhibition on the history of traditional art casting in Lauchhammer, the museum also has various special exhibitions, the first of which is about the Lauchhammer workplace.
