The Hochheim art collection is a private art collection that is now owned by the city of Hochheim am Main .

history

In 1999 the city of Hochheim am Main received the collection of modern and contemporary art from the Wiesbaden couple Liane and Hermann Rosteck on permanent loan. At the beginning of 2019, the collection was donated to the City of Hochheim.

The Hochheim art collection comprises more than 600 exhibits. The collection documents the most important trends of the 20th century in seven exhibition rooms. Highlights of the private collection (paintings, drawings, graphics, sculptures) are, in addition to works by Joseph Beuys and AR Penck , works by Pablo Picasso , Joan Miró , Antoni Tàpies , Salvador Dali , Max Ernst and Wolf Vostell , who u. a. with the image The four Andalusian principles from 1985 is represented. Another focus of the collection are works from the oeuvres of Hans Laabs and Gerry Eckhardt , as well as numerous works by young, contemporary artists.

The collection is housed in Villa Burgeff , which originally belonged to the owner of the Burgeff Sektkellerei Diether Hummel . The classicist building was built in 1841. It was almost completely destroyed in a fire at the end of the 19th century. The current building is a new building from the turn of the century, which was rebuilt based on the original building plans.
