Diether Hummel (born April 5, 1908 in Hochheim am Main , † September 18, 1989 there ) was a sparkling wine producer, association president and fast night.

Life

He passed his Abitur at the Evangelical Pedagogy Godesberg . He received his further training at the Bavarian State Institute for Viticulture and Horticulture in Veitshöchheim . In 1927 he joined the Hochheimer Sektkellerei Burgeff & Co. From 1951 to May 23, 1989, Hummel was President of the Association of German Sektkellereien . In this position he followed his grandfather Hermann Joseph Hummel (1892–1921) and father (1921–32). In 1964 he became Vice President, 1967–85 President and then Honorary President of the Wiesbaden Chamber of Commerce . Hummel made a decisive contribution to the rebuilding of the German sparkling wine industry after 1945 and its rise from 1952.

Fast night

Diether Hummel was a leading figure of the Mainz Carnival recognized by all Mainz associations and Carnival corporations . From 1928 on he was President of the Mainz Prinzengarde , Field Marshal General and Oberstadtmarschall of the City of Mainz for over 60 years . His adjutant was Jockel Fuchs for a long time . Like other sparkling wine manufacturers, he shaped the development of social life in Mainz to a considerable extent.

Honors

In 1982 the Chamber of Commerce and Industry awarded a "Diether Hummel Prize" for special achievements in the field of training and further education in order to honor Hummel's commitment to promoting young talent. In March 1968 he became Honorary Consul of the Principality of Monaco . In his hometown of Hochheim he was made an honorary citizen, the square adjacent to the old buildings and cellars of the Burgeff sparkling wine cellar was named "Privy Councilor Hummel Square". Hummel also received the ring of honor from the city of Mainz and the golden plaque of honor from the city of Wiesbaden . On June 20, 1969, he was awarded the Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .
