In the Association of German Sektkellereien e. V. , the sparkling wine cellars in Germany are organized. Its purpose is to safeguard the general commercial interests of its members nationally and internationally and to advise them on technical issues. The association does not pursue any commercial purposes.
history
The association based in Wiesbaden was founded on February 15, 1908. It was preceded by the Syndicate of German Sparkling Wine Manufacturers , founded on March 2, 1892 to safeguard common interests , which was renamed the Association of German Sparkling Wine Cellars on June 25, 1895 . The syndicate initially consisted of 15 sparkling wine cellars.
The association spread the new term sparkling wine for sparkling wine in Germany. After the end of the First World War , the so-called champagne paragraph of the Versailles Treaty of 1919 no longer permitted the previously common designation champagne . The term sparkling wine , which had become common a few years earlier, was officially used for the first time in 1925 in the new implementation regulations for the Wine Act .
In 1923 the association entered into an office community with the Association of German Wine Distilleries, which existed until 1991 .
After the seizure of power by the National Socialists, the association was founded in 1935 in the Section for food industry Sparkling wine industry business group converted. After the Second World War , the occupation authorities only allowed regional associations. That is why an association of German sparkling wine cellars in the French zone (headed by Christian Adalbert Kupferberg) and an association of German sparkling wine cellars in Großhessen (headed by Otto Schmidt from Söhnlein Rheingold sparkling wine cellar ) were founded.
