history

Beginnings and origins

The plans for the creation of a spa garden were made at the beginning of the 1930s. As part of the expansion of today's Bundesstraße 242 (Harzhochstraße) between 1936 and 1938, the municipality of Tanne received financial support for the design of a "park with fountains and benches to promote tourism". Therefore, between 1937 and 1939, an unused wasteland in the center of the village was converted into a green area. However, due to the war, the facility with an area of approx. 1000 m² could not be fully completed.

After the end of the war, there were initially other priorities. It was not until the late 1950s that the idea of expanding the existing facility developed. Implementation began in 1957 under the direction of Mayor Friedrich Simon. First, the northern slope of the Bodetal was redesigned into a terraced park area. Paths have been laid out, trees and bushes have been planted and benches have been set up. The first building was a bandstand . A reclining hall for the open-air cure was also built. In 1961 the facility was officially opened.

In the following years the spa park developed into the cultural center of Tanne. In the small music pavilion there were regular concerts and performances during the summer months. The planting was continuously expanded, the flora on the hangar area grew to around 350 different species by the end of the 1980s.

"Botanical Garden" project

In the mid-1980s, the GDR Cultural Association decided to transform the Tanner Kurpark into a botanical garden - as a permanent replacement for the Brockengarten, which was no longer accessible . The university in Halle was to take care of the facility . A fundamental redesign to redesign the entire spa park was decided on October 13, 1988. Until the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, however, the redesign was no longer implemented.

Remodeling after 1990

As part of job creation measures, the spa park was transformed into a botanical "Harzgarten" from 1991. The complex was divided into different botanical areas of life. This is how u. a. a heather garden, an alpine garden, a fern and grass garden and a water garden. In May 1994, the newly designed green area was opened to the public.

At the end of the 1990s, the facility became increasingly overgrown and the facilities fell into disrepair. The bandstand had to be demolished before the turn of the millennium. You will also look in vain for the lounge area today.

The park has been maintained and maintained by a voluntary citizens' initiative since 2014.
