Kurt Albert Gerlach
Kurt Albert Gerlach (born August 22, 1886 in Hanover , † October 19, 1922 in Frankfurt ) was a German sociologist.
Life
The son of a factory owner received his doctorate from the University of Kiel under Ferdinand Tönnies and then studied at the University of Leipzig and the London School of Economics . In 1913 he qualified as a professor for political economy in Leipzig. From 1913 he worked as a private lecturer at the Kiel Institute for the World Economy . From 1914 he was editor of the journal Der Staatsbürger .
During the November Revolution, Gerlach became a member of the SPD . A short time later, he switched to the USPD to eventually join anarcho-syndicalism . He wrote articles for the magazine Der Syndikalist .
In 1919 he was appointed to the Technical University of Aachen , in 1922 he followed a call to the University of Frankfurt .
In 1922 he died of diabetes shortly before his appointment as first director of the Frankfurt Institute for Social Research . Gerlach had already put a more detailed research program on paper. Thus, Carl Grünberg appointed founding director.
His divorced wife Christiane Gerlach married Richard Sorge in 1921 . This in turn was Gerlach's assistant at the IfW and followed him to Frankfurt.
