Kurt Bürger

Kurt Bürger (born July 12, 1899 in Berlin - Charlottenburg , † February 23, 1991 in Bremen ) was a German fodder plant breeder.

Life

Bürger studied agriculture at the University of Halle from 1921 and from 1923 worked as an experimental field assistant at the local institute for plant cultivation and plant breeding. In 1926 he received his doctorate in Halle with a business-oriented dissertation on the grassland management of the Pomeranian moors. From 1929 he was director of the "Nordwestdeutsche Futtersaat GmbH" (NFG) in Bremen. With his participation, the "Deutsche Saatveredelung Lippstadt-Bremen GmbH" was created in 1965 through the merger of this company with Deutsche Saatveredelung Lippstadt. From 1953 to 1975 Bürger was also the managing director of the "Fördergemeinschaft Futtersaaten GmbH", which he founded.

Bürger made significant contributions to the fields of forage plant breeding , seed propagation and grassland advice . Under his direction, numerous high-yielding varieties of grasses and other forage plants have come onto the market over the course of several decades. Bürger is considered one of the pioneers of modern grass seed cultivation. One of his most important publications is the publication “ Our grasses in forage and seed cultivation ”, published together with other specialist colleagues in 1961 .

In 1922 he became a corps student at Teutonia Halle. In 1949 he was awarded in Frankfurt and the band of Saxonia .
