Kurt Bernhardi

Kurt Bernhardi (born October 20, 1847 in Ebersbach / Sa. , † October 17, 1892 in Grimma ) was a German educator.

Life

The fourth son of the businessman Kamillo Bernhardi grew up in Leipzig and Dresden. In Dresden he attended the Annenrealschule , later the high school for the holy cross . At Easter 1864 he switched to the St. Thomas School in Leipzig and began studying classical philology at the University of Leipzig at Easter 1867 . At Michaelis 1868 he moved to the University of Berlin , where he continued his training with Moriz Haupt . Here he was mainly concerned with the works of Immanuel Kant . Michaelis he returned to Leipzig in 1869, where he began his doctoral thesis under the direction of Friedrich Ritschl . As a private tutor in Plagwitz , he was able to carry out the necessary work in rural seclusion. In the summer of 1871 he received his doctorate in Leipzig with the dissertation De incisionibus anapaesti in trimetro comico graecorum and passed his state examination as a teacher.

He then got a trial teacher position at the Zittau high school and in 1872 switched to the Chemnitz high school . At Easter 1880 he became the fourth senior teacher at the royal high school in Leipzig. After he had spent a vacation in Greece and Italy in 1882 with scientific work, he became a school librarian in 1884 and received the title of high school professor. At Easter 1888 he became rector of the secondary school in Schneeberg , which was converted into a grammar school in 1890. On January 19, 1891 he was appointed rector of the Saxon State School Grimma , which office he took over on April 1 of the same year. From June 8, 1891, he suffered from a stomach ailment, which could not be alleviated further even with a few cures and from which Bernhardi finally died in 1892.

Bernhardi married the eldest daughter of the Nuremberg commercial councilor Messthaler Anna Elisabeth on May 2, 1883 in Nuremberg. The marriage resulted in five children, three boys and two girls. His daughter, Hildegard Bernhardi, b. 1886, married the general practitioner Georg Ose in 1907. From this marriage there are 4 sons; Karl, Fritz, Hans and Wilhelm.
