Kurt Gartlehner (born September 3, 1952 in Großraming , Upper Austria ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and was a member of the National Council from 1990 to 2013 .

education and profession

After his training at the elementary and secondary school in Großraming, he attended the 4-year technical school in Waidhofen an der Ybbs , which he completed at the HTL for tool and device construction in Waidhofen an der Ybbs. In 1974 he made up his Matura at the age of 22.

Kurt Gartlehner had worked as an assembly worker at Steyr Daimler Puch (SDP) since July 1974 , before starting military service in Hörsching in October 1974. From December 1975 he worked as a measurement technician in SDP research, from mid-1978 he was the head of order planning in rolling bearing production. After in-house management training, Gartlehner took over the main department head position in production logistics in 1981 and in 1988 became head of investment planning at Svenska Kullagerfabriken Österreich AG, which had bought out rolling bearing production from SDP in the same year. He left this position in 1993. From 1997 to 2000 he worked for the management consultancy firm Ramsauer & Stürmer Consulting, since 2000 he has worked as an independent consultant alongside his political activities.

Gartlehner is married and has two sons.

Political career

From 1972 Kurt Gartlehner was regional chairman of the Socialist Youth in Upper Austria. From 1979 he was local party chairman in Großraming and was elected to the Austrian National Council in 1990. In 1997 he became a member of the federal party executive committee of the SPÖ. In the National Council, he was the deputy chairman of the budget committee and the committee for research, innovation and technology from 2008 to 2013. In February 2012, he suspended his function as telecom spokesman for the SPÖ's parliamentary club after a parliamentary committee of inquiry to clarify allegations of corruption raised the issue that he would receive 3,000 euros a month from Peter Hochegger for a year and a half from mid-2007 who worked as a lobbyist for Telekom Austria . In the 2013 National Council election, Gartlehner decided not to run again and thus resigned from parliament after more than 23 years.

In the legislative period up to 2013 he was a member of the following committees: Subcommittee of the Foreign Affairs Committee; Standing Subcommittee of the Budget Committee; Research, Innovation and Technology Committee; Committee on Economy and Industry; Budget committee; Science Committee.
