Kurt Georg Förster (born August 18, 1904 in Hamburg ; † January 4, 1987 there ) was a German engineer and construction director .

Live and act

Kurt Georg Förster attended Heinrich-Hertz-Realgymnasium in Hamburg and graduated from high school in Jena in 1923 . He then studied civil engineering at the Technical University of Danzig and the Technical University of Braunschweig . After successfully passing the main diploma examination, he worked in the construction industry for several years. From 1932/33 to 1936 he worked as an assistant at the Technical University of Hanover , then in the field of hydraulic engineering at the Technical University of Braunschweig. Here he received his doctorate in 1936 as Dr.-Ing.

Förster gained two more years of professional experience and from April 1, 1938 worked as an employee in the planning department of the Port of Hamburg . In 1943 he became a building officer, five years later a senior building officer. It is worth mentioning his services to the jetties , which were restored and redesigned at that time. From 1953 Förster headed the planning department. Here he played a significant role in the reconstruction of the port, which was destroyed by the war. In doing so, new quay sheds and quay walls and new, optimized construction elements were developed. Förster owned patents for special designs of dolphins that were used for this. In 1964 Förster was appointed building director. The engineer, highly respected in national and international specialist circles, retired in 1969.

Activities as an appraiser

Förster supported several building projects, such as from 1949 the "Working Committee for Shore Edging" of the Port Building Technology Society and from 1950 the German Society for Earthworks and Foundation Engineering . He traveled to almost all of the major ports in Europe to discuss redesigns. His report on the operating conditions in the port of Valparaíso and his study on the expansion of the port in Greenville in Liberia are particularly noteworthy . In addition, Förster published extensively.
