The Heinrich-Hertz-Schule (HHS) in Hamburg-Winterhude is a district school with a high school branch .
history
The "Heinrich Hertz-Realgymnasium", founded in 1907, was merged with the Lichtwarkschule in the course of the Nazi consolidation in 1937 and renamed "Oberschule am Stadtpark for boys". In 1968 the Heinrich Hertz School was founded as the first cooperative comprehensive school in Hamburg. The elementary schools for girls and boys on Vossberg were integrated into the HHS. Since the Hamburg school reform in 2010, it has enabled the Abitur as a “district school / high school” both after twelve (G8) and after thirteen school years (G9).
Sports lessons include tennis and hockey on the grounds of the Harvestehuder Tennis and Hockey Club (HTHC), which is right next to the school .
building
The school building on Grasweg was built according to plans by Fritz Schumacher . Planning began as early as 1910, but the building could not be occupied until April 1925. The building was badly damaged in the Second World War and changed during the reconstruction, especially in the roof area.
organ
An organ by the writer and organ builder Hans Henny Jahnn was built by Karl Kemper in 1931 and restored in 1991 by master organ builder G. Christian Lobback. It has 24 registers with approx. 1450 pipes and is the only Jahnn organ in Hamburg that can still be played.
