Kurt Grünig (born March 13, 1944 in Thun ) is a Swiss football player . He played five times in the dress of the Swiss national team . The two-footed, flexible player has won three cups over the course of his career.

Career

Grünig went through the junior stations at FC Thun and played for the first time in a competitive match for the 1st team in National League B on March 5, 1961. In Thun he was a successful striker and scored a total of 18 goals for the Bernese in the 1962/63 season Oberländer.

After this successful season, Grünig moved to BSC Young Boys in the highest Swiss league. When he was called up for the national team for the first time in 1964, he scored both goals for Switzerland in his first game, but they remained his only ones.

In 1967, Grünig moved to the National League B for two seasons as a playmaker at FC St. Gallen . With the East Swiss, Grünig was promoted to the National League A and in 1969 he was the captain of the Swiss Cup.

From St. Gallen he moved to FC Zurich , where he played in defense and midfield. In 1970 and 1972 he won the FCZ cup and left the club after the second cup title in the direction of Winterthur.

At FC Winterthur he first played in defense and was then used in midfield. With Winterthur he reached the cup final again in 1975, which he lost together with the Winterthur team against FC Basel . In November 1975, FC Winterthur terminated the contract with Grünig for "disciplinary reasons", with FC Winterthur publicly revoking the allegations raised regarding an intoxicated training visit after an arbitration meeting in February.

After the conflict in Winterthur, Grünig moved back to Zurich in April to the NLB Association Young Fellows Zurich . With the Zurich team, Grünig rose to the highest Swiss league in 1977. In the spring of 1978, Grünig ended his active career during the second half of the season.

After his active career, Grünig was on the board of the Young Fellows Zurich from 1988 to 1992, and from 1985 to 2010 he was on the board of the Friends of the National Team.
