Life

Kurt Heinze studied biology in Berlin and worked at the Zoological Museum of the University of Berlin and at the Zoological Institute and Museum of the University of Greifswald . From 1936 he worked as an entomologist in the biological Reichsanstalt in Berlin-Dahlem. He worked scientifically on virus transmission in potatoes by aphids . From 1940 to 1945 Heinze was in the military. He then worked briefly in Celle and finally, until his retirement, back in Berlin. Heinze completed his habilitation in 1962 and was appointed an adjunct professor in 1966 by the Faculty of Agriculture at the TU Berlin .

Scientific importance

In addition to many scientific publications, Kurt Heinze has also written or edited a number of books. Particularly noteworthy is the standard work for the practice and science of pest control , the multi-volume “Guide to Pest Control”, which was printed in several editions.

In the course of time Kurt Heinze dealt more and more with the taxonomy of aphids (Aphidina) and put together an excellent collection of microscopic specimens, which, after detours, is now being preserved and recorded in the Munich State Zoological Collection . The collection includes more than 780 species from 257 genera on more than 6000 slides.
