Athletic career

Since 1942 football has been played at the first division level in the Baltic city of Wismar. Initially, TSV Wismar was represented in the Gauliga Mecklenburg , one of the highest football leagues in the Third Reich, until the end of the war . At the two Eastern Zone Championships in 1948 and 1949, SG Wismar Ost (1948) and SG Wismar Süd (1949) made it to the quarter-finals. As the Mecklenburg regional champion in 1949, SG Süd had also qualified for the first 1949/50 season of the newly created East German league. Under the new name ZSG Anker Wismar , the team fought from the start of the season to stay in the league, which was ultimately gambled away with only six wins from 26 games.

One of the main forces behind the people of Wismar was the 27-year-old Kurt Reinhold. Between the 2nd and the 26th matchday he was called up in all point games. He appeared as a striker thirteen times and played in midfield in the other games. Three times he was successful with goals, twice against Industrie Leipzig on the 6th and 21st matchday and on the 24th matchday against Franz Mehring Marga. Reinhold played his last competitive game for the first team of the ZSG Anker on June 17, 1950. The Wismarers had finished the season with the same number of points as the ZSG Altenburg Nord in 13th place. In a playoff for relegation, both teams had to compete against each other again. In front of 12,000 spectators in Magdeburg, Wismar lost 3-2 with Reinhold as a half right striker.
