The Theodor Buschmann GmbH & Co. KG is a shipyard in Hamburg .

history

Johann Thomas Theodor Buschmann founded a small shipyard on the Steinwerder in 1882 . The expansion of Blohm + Voss led to the resettlement on the Ross am Köhlbrand in 1893 . After the founder's death in 1912, the shipyard was continued by his sons Theodor and Heinrich Buschmann. In 1934 the brothers separated. In 1935 Heinrich Buschmann took over the shipyard from the Westphalian coal office on the Peute, where barges and inland vessels were built. Theodor Buschmann continued his father's business and built a new shipyard on Reiherstieg after it was destroyed by the war in 1945 .

The tug Fairplay VIII , built in 1962 at the Buschmann shipyard, lies next to the Bleichen in the Port Museum in Hamburg

Initially, the shipyard mainly built barges that carried the ship's cargo on the dolphins to the warehouses in the Port of Hamburg . After 1945, small ships and barges with their own propulsion were also manufactured in addition to barges . In the 1950s, several customs boats and inland tankers were also delivered. Even tractors were built, but mainly harbor some Towboats. A good cooperation developed here with the Fairplay shipping company , for which new tugs were regularly built. Nevertheless, in October 1957, the shipyard had to apply for a settlement procedure to avert bankruptcy. In 1958 the shipyard was bought by the Fairplay shipping company.

For the most part, ships and barges were built for use in ports and on inland waters that did not exceed the measurement of 1000 GRT . From 1882 to 2014 the shipyard delivered a total of 282 newbuildings.

Today the shipyard operates under the name Theodor Buschmann GmbH & Co. KG and is part of the Fairplay Towage .
