Kurt Runge (rower)

Kurt Runge (born September 13, 1887 in Brandenburg an der Havel ; † November 6, 1959 ) was the helmsman of the German eight , who won the Olympic bronze medal in 1912.

Runge started for the Berlin rowing club from 1876 . In 1912 the Berlin eight with Otto Liebing , Max Bröske , Max Vetter , Willi Bartholomae , Fritz Bartholomae , Werner Dehn , Rudolf Reichelt , Hans Matthiae and Kurt Runge won the German championship in front of the boat from Mainz, the boat from the Berlin RC Sport-Borussia gave up.

At the 1912 Olympic Games on Djurgårdsbrunnsviken in Stockholm, two boats competed against each other in a knockout system. The eighth of the Berlin RV from 1876 won the first round over a Hungarian eight. In the second round, two Berlin boats met, the RV from 1876 won over the boat from Sport-Borussia. In the semifinals, the boat and Runge lost to the later Olympic champions from London's Leander Club . Since only three boats reached the semi-finals, the Germans were third in the Olympics.
