Kurt Ruso (born March 27, 1937 in Gmünd , Lower Austria ) is an Austrian insurance specialist .

Life

Ruso, originally a teacher, studied at the University of Vienna and had been a member of the board since 1975, and 1981–85 General Director of the ÖVP- related Austrian federal state insurance . Ruso was given early retirement at the end of 1985 for health reasons. As a result, there was a criminal case against Ruso because of the offense of infidelity , the amount of damage through payments based on bogus damage reports was about 150 million schillings . During the criminal proceedings carried out in 1988, the suspicion of political party funding was repeatedly voiced, but Ruso made a name for himself as a “great silence”. In June 1988 he was sentenced to seven years' imprisonment and repayment of ATS 131 million. According to a report in the Spiegel on June 16, 1986, the SPÖ did not pursue the scandal in the ÖVP-related area because both major parties were interested in "calming down" various affairs.

In the case of the Kurt Ruso scandal, there were links to the Lucona case and, via Ottilie Matysek , to the Waldheim affair . Ruso's state insurance company refused to pay out the sum insured in the Lucona case, and Ruso testified in the criminal proceedings that pressure was therefore put on him; Ottilie Matysek, a personal friend of Ruso's, appeared on Ruso's “takers” list, but during their proceedings in favor of Matysek, Ruso testified that he had forged her signature. Other beneficiaries of Ruso were convicted, for example the Styrian ex- governor Friedrich Niederl .
