Kurt Töpel (born October 16, 1932 ) is a former German soccer player. In 1952/53 he played for BSG Motor / Wismut Gera in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Athletic career

In the 1952/53 senior division of the company sports association (BSG) Motor Gera, newcomer Kurt Töpel was one of the youngest at the age of 19. After Motor Gera had started the league season with four defeats, coach Oskar Büchner changed the midfield axis of his team and brought Kurt Töpel into the game for the first time as the left runner . Töpel took the chance and fought for a regular place in this position with 20 appearances. The BSG renamed itself in the second half of the season in BSG Wismut, but had to relegate from the league at the end of the season.

The GDR league season 1953/54 was Töpel's most successful season. He played all 26 league games in his original position and scored three goals on top of that. In the transition round in autumn 1955, which served as the transition to the summer-spring game rhythm and in the 1st GDR League (the 2nd GDR League was introduced as the 3rd division ) with 13 games, Töpel came in 12 -time to use. In the following seasons, too, he was a permanent member of the BSG Wismut, before his management curve moved downwards from 1958. While Töpel was called up 39 times in a total of 52 league games in 1956 and 1957, he was only used in eight games in 1958 and 15 times in 1959. Kurt Töpel then ended his career in higher-class football after eight seasons. During this time he had 20 Oberliga and 101 GDR league games and three goals.
