Numerous watercolors originate from his hand , which mainly depict the Bavarian pre-Alpine landscape , but some also show North German and Mediterranean motifs. According to Dr. Carl J. Burkart drew Tilsner "with admirable skill, old houses and alleys, dilapidated huts and picturesque haystacks and conjured up the (southern German) landscape in the finest watercolor technique on the paper."

With his subtle, detailed manner of representation, he was perceived in the Munich art scene of the 20th century as "one of our greatest master of watercolor painting". In addition to his preference for watercolor painting, he also designed large landscapes and mountain pictures in oil . Many reproductions, even in the smallest format, became known in various magazines.

Exhibitions

At exhibitions about alpine painting and art, Tilsner enjoyed regular popularity with his exhibits. From 1960 he participated every year as a member of the renowned spring exhibition in Munich's Haus der Kunst . In 1979 he was awarded the 1st art prize of the citizens of Ansbach .

Others

Tilsner was a member of the Munich artists' cooperative (royally privileged from 1868).
