Kurt Voss (director)

Kurt Christopher Peter Wössner or Kurt Voss (born September 15, 1963 in Panorama City , Los Angeles , California ) is an American film director , screenwriter and musician .

Life

Kurt Voss attended UCLA Film School before he began writing screenplays and working as a film director. His first project was Border Radio in 1987 , where he wrote the script and directed with Allison Anders . The production cost was around US $ 50,000 and the LA Times described it as "one of the best films of all time about the world of rock music" .

In 1990 Voss directed the film Horseplayer , which he had also co-written. Horseplayer premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and received the Best Actor Award at the Taormina Film Festival in Italy. The Boston Globe named it "one of the best independent films of the year" , while the LA Times called it a "deadpan psychological thriller" when it opened in theaters .

Voss is also active as a musician, so he is one of the founding members of the punk band The Hindi Guns . He was married to the British actress Samantha Davis , with whom he has a daughter.
