Kurt Wawrzik
Kurt Wawrzik (born February 15, 1929 in Meiningen ; † July 26, 2010 ) was a German trade unionist and politician ( CDU ). He was a member of the German Bundestag and the European Parliament.
Life and work
Wawrzik was born the son of a master brewer. Shortly before the end of the Second World War , he was drafted into the Wehrmacht . Most recently he was captured. After completing secondary school in 1945, he completed a molding apprenticeship at the Meiningen Reichsbahn repair shop. In 1949 he went to the Strebel works in Mannheim and from 1950 worked at Daimler-Benz AG in Mannheim. He has been a union member of IG Metall since 1951 and was an exempt works council for the company from 1965 to 1975. In addition to his professional and trade union activities, he was the treasurer of Deutsche Welthungerhilfe . Wawrzik was married and had two children. Kurt Wawrzik was a long-time member of the non-partisan European Union Germany .
politics
Wawrzik had been a member of the CDU since 1951 and was deputy chairman of the Junge Union Nordbaden. At times he was in front of the Mannheim CDU associations Neckarstadt and Gartenstadt and was chairman of the CDU district association Mannheim from 1973 to 1979. He was a founding member of the CDA , for ten years on the CDA federal executive board and from 1979 to 1989 Vice President of the Europäische. CDA.
Wawrzik was a member of the Mannheim City Council from 1965 to 1969. He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1969 to 1980. He was always drawn into parliament via the Baden-Württemberg state list. He was also a member of the European Parliament from 1977 to 1989 , in which from 1979 he was Vice President of the European Social Committee of the European People's Party .
