Kurt Weiler
Kurt Weiler (born August 16, 1921 in Lehrte ; † August 2, 2016 in Kleinmachnow ) was one of the most important animated film directors in the GDR .
Life
Weiler was one of the avant-garde artists beyond the borders of the GDR, who set different accents beyond Disney in the field of animated films and who stood out through experimental work. Among other things, he worked in the DEFA studio for animated films in Dresden . His animation work also includes the snowman animation in the real film A Snowman for Africa .

Awards
In 1969 he was awarded the gold medal for The Apple at the International Film Festival for Short and Documentary Films in Moscow . Two years later he was awarded an honorary diploma at the International Documentary and Short Film Festival for The Lion Balthasar in Bilbao . In 1982 he received the National Prize of the GDR III. Art and literature class. In 2004 he received the DEFA Foundation Prize for his services to German film.
