Kurt Zeiseweis

Kurt Zeiseweis (born May 2, 1937 in Berlin ) is a former senior employee of the Ministry for State Security (MfS) of the German Democratic Republic (GDR). From 1955 to 1990 he worked in the Berlin district administration.

Life

Zeiseweis, son of a worker, graduated from high school in 1955 and was hired by the MfS in August of the same year. Until 1956 he was an employee of Department VIII of the Berlin district administration, responsible for "observation and investigation". From 1956 to 1958 he attended the MfS University in Potsdam-Eiche .

In 1958 Zeiseweis became deputy head of department XX of the Berlin district administration and remained so until 1983. From 1962 to 1966 he also completed a correspondence course in criminology at the Humboldt University in Berlin .

From 1983 to 1986 Zeiseweis was district office manager of the MfS in Berlin-Treptow . In 1986 he returned to the Berlin District Administration and until 1990 was deputy head of the "Operational" and "Protection of Secrets" departments. After the reunification and peaceful revolution in the GDR , he worked until August 1990 on the committee for the dissolution of the MfS and the resulting Office for National Security in the GDR .

Since 1991 Zeiseweis took part in several discussion groups and public discussions with people who were affected by surveillance and repressive measures of the MfS. In January 1991 he underwent retraining, then worked in a construction company and as an employed salesman and was temporarily unemployed. In 1994 he retired. He lives in Berlin.
