Kurt Zernecke (born January 28, 1925 ) is a former German football player who was active between 1950 and 1951 for the SG Volkspolizei Dresden in the highest football league ( Oberliga ) of the German Sports Committee of the GDR .

Athletic career

Zernecke was one of the first football players to revive football in East Germany after the end of the Second World War . In autumn 1945 in Magdeburg he was one of the founders of the Sudenburg sports group, an early predecessor of 1. FC Magdeburg .

In the summer of 1950 he was part of the upper league team of the SG Volkspolizei Dresden, which had been chosen by the GDR sports association Deutsche Volkspolizei to be their future top team in GDR football. For this purpose, the SG Volkspolizei, which had previously played in the lower-class Dresden city league, was reinforced with players from police sports groups from all over the GDR and placed in the upper league for the 1950/51 season without any athletic qualifications.

Zernicke was first used on the 6th game day of the season and played on the position of the right runner . Then he played with one exception all the point games until the end of the season, but could not score a goal. He was still used mainly in midfield. Also in the first game of Dresden in the season 1951/52 Zernecke was in the league team and was called up as a central midfielder. It was his last league game, the reasons for this cannot be determined from the sources listed below.

Between the 1960s and 1980s, Zernecke was regularly mentioned as a junior coach at BFC Dynamo , as well as a functionary of the East Berlin district committee football. In April 1987, at the age of 62, he was retired from his functions.
