Wieszczęta ( German Wiestschont , Wieschtzend or Wieschtont , Czech Věščata ) is a village with a Schulzenamt of the Jasienica municipality in the Bielski Powiat in the Silesian Voivodeship , Poland .
geography
Wieszczęta is located in the Silesian Foothills ( Pogórze Śląskie ) about 10 km west of Bielsko-Biała and 45 km south of Katowice in the Powiat (district) Bielsko-Biała.
The village has an area of 199.4 ha .
Neighboring towns are Roztropice in the north, Rudzica in the northeast, Łazy in the east, Bielowicko in the south, Kowale in the west.
history
The village is located in the Olsa area (also Teschener Silesia , Polish Śląsk Cieszyński ).
It was founded in the 16th century. The place was first mentioned in a document as ze wsy Wiessczat around 1577 . The name is derived from the first name Wieszcz (≤ * Věst-jb ).
Politically, the village belonged to the Duchy of Teschen , the feudal rule of the Kingdom of Bohemia in the Habsburg Monarchy .
After the abolition of patrimonial from 1850 it was a municipality in Austrian Silesia , Bielitz district and Skotschau judicial district . In the years 1880 to 1910 the village had about 140 inhabitants, there were predominantly Polish-speaking (between 93.7% and 100%) and German-speaking (8 or 6.3% in 1890). In 1910, 52.5% were Protestant, 47.5% Roman Catholic.
In 1920, after the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and the end of the Polish-Czechoslovak border war , Wieszczęta became part of Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II .
From 1975 to 1998 Wieszczęta belonged to the Bielsko-Biała Voivodeship .
A Protestant cemetery chapel was built in 1916. The parish ( Wieszczęta- Kowale , Diocese of Cieszyn ) was established in 1994.
