Roztropice (formerly Roztropica ; German Rostropitz or Ostropitz ) is a village with a Schulzenamt of the Jasienica municipality in the Powiat Bielski of the Silesian Voivodeship , Poland .

geography

Roztropice is located on the border of the Auschwitz Basin ( Kotlina Ostrawska , in the northwest) and the Silesian Foothills ( Pogórze Śląskie , in the southeast), about 10 km west of Bielsko-Biała and 50 km south of Katowice in the Powiat (district) Bielsko-Biała.

The village has an area of ​​576.1 hectares .

Neighboring towns are Iłownica in the north, Rudzica in the northeast, Wieszczęta in the south, Kowale in the southwest, Pierściec in the west.

history

The village is located in the Olsa area (also Teschener Silesia , Polish Śląsk Cieszyński ).

The place was first mentioned as an item in Rostropitz around 1305 in the Liber fundationis episcopatus Vratislaviensis (Tithe Register of the Diocese of Breslau ) . The name is patronymically derived from the first name * Roztrop (Polish roztropny means reasonable ) with typical patronymic word ending -ice.

Politically, the village originally belonged to the Duchy of Teschen , which existed from 1290 during the period of Polish particularism . Since 1327 was the fiefdom of the kingdom of Bohemia , since 1526 it belonged to the Habsburg monarchy .

After the abolition of patrimonial from 1850 it was a municipality in Austrian Silesia , Bielitz district and Skotschau judicial district . In the years 1880 to 1910 the population decreased from 474 in 1880 to 441 in 1910, it was predominantly Polish-speaking (between 97.3% and 98.7%) and German-speaking (12 or 2.5% in 1880) . In 1910 77.2% were Roman Catholics, 22.2% were Protestants, there were three Jews.

In 1920, after the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and the end of the Polish-Czechoslovak border war , Roztropice became part of Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II .

From 1975 to 1998 Roztropice was part of the Bielsko-Biała Voivodeship .
