Łazy ( German Lazy ) is a village with a Schulzenamt of the municipality Jasienica in the Powiat Bielski of the Silesian Voivodeship in Poland . The village is located in the historical landscape of Cieszyn Silesia (Polish Śląsk Cieszyński ).

geography

Łazy is located in the Silesian Foothills ( Pogórze Śląskie ), about 10 km west of Bielsko-Biała and 45 km south of Katowice in the Powiat (district) Bielsko-Biała.

The village has an area of 349.1 hectares .

Neighboring towns are Rudzica in the north, Jasienica in the east, Świętoszówka in the south, Grodziec in the southwest, Wieszczęta and Bielowicko in the west.

history

In the 1990s, superficial traces (ceramics, slag) of a larger settlement (a few hectares) were excavated there, where iron was smelted before the migration . The poor research prevents knowledge of the cultural connections, but the wider area was then inhabited by Germanic tribes.

The place probably already existed in the 13th century, but was not mentioned in the Liber fundationis episcopatus Vratislaviensis (a directory of mostly newly founded settler villages in the diocese of Wroclaw , older places were often left out), but was first mentioned in 1447 as Bucze Łazy . The widespread place name Łazy denotes a thinning of the forest by burning .

Politically, the village originally belonged to the Duchy of Teschen , which existed from 1290 during the period of Polish particularism . Since 1327 was the fiefdom of the kingdom of Bohemia , since 1526 it belonged to the Habsburg monarchy . In the years 1573 or 1577 to approx. 1594 it was formerly part of the short-lived class rule Skotschau - Schwarzwasser spun off from the Duchy of Teschen.

After the abolition of patrimonial from 1850 it was a municipality in Austrian Silesia , Bielitz district and Skotschau judicial district . In the years 1880 to 1910 the population decreased from 293 in 1880 to 244 in 1910, of which they were predominantly Polish -speaking ( in the form of the Teschen dialects , between 96.2% and 100%), also German-speaking (11 or 3 , 8% in 1880). In 1910 they were 83.6% Roman Catholic and 16.4% Protestant.

Politically, the village was shaped at that time by the Polish national movement, in the Reichsrat election in 1907 (45 out of 48 votes) and 1911 (41 out of 46) Józef Londzin from the Union of Silesian Catholics won there .

In 1920, after the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and the end of the Polish-Czechoslovak border war , Łazy came to Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II .

From 1975 to 1998 Łazy was part of the Bielsko-Biała Voivodeship .

A Roman Catholic branch church from Bielowicko was built between 1938 and 1971.
