history

The village is located in the Olsa area (also Teschener Silesia , Polish Śląsk Cieszyński ).

The place was first mentioned in a document about 1305 in the Liber fundationis episcopatus Vratislaviensis (tenth register of the diocese of Wroclaw ) as an item in Rudgeri villa primo silva inciditur .

The parish villa Rudgeri was mentioned in the Peterspfennigregister of 1335 in the Teschen deanery and in 1447 as Rudgersdorff .

The original name Rudgersdorf suggests it was created in the course of the German settlement in the east . Today's Polish name first appeared in the German-language document as Rauditz in 1452 , but it was not a translation of the German name. The Polish name is linked to a rusty brown ( rudy ) brook. In 1600 Rudzica Małe ( Small ) appeared as na Maley Rudiczy and in 1603 Rudzica Wielka ( Large ) as na Welkj Rudicy . The new German name Riegersdorf ( Groß und Klein Riegersdorf ) appeared in 1573.

Politically, the village originally belonged to the Duchy of Teschen , which existed from 1290 during the period of Polish particularism . Since 1327 consisted suzerainty of the Kingdom of Bohemia and since 1526 it belonged to the Habsburg monarchy .

After the abolition of patrimonial from 1850 it was a municipality in Austrian Silesia , Bielitz district and Schwarzwasser judicial district . In the years 1880 to 1910, the population increased from 1291 in 1880 to 1339 in 1910, the majority were Polish-speaking (between 97% and 98.2%), German-speaking (30 or 2.2% in 1910) and Czech-speaking (10 or 0.8% in 1900). In 1910 90% were Roman Catholic, 9.9% were Protestant, there were two Jews.

In 1920, after the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and the end of the Polish-Czechoslovak border war , Rudzica came to Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II .

From 1975 to 1998 Rudzica was part of the Bielsko-Biała Voivodeship .
